CHAPTER 1.2
SETTLING IN THE TOWN
"Good morning, Riverview!" said Lufrit.
The second day in Riverview since their arrival had begun. Lufrit started his day by watering the garden.
Robin prepared for her first day of job. Ate cereal for her breakfast. Apparently, she need to wear a dress to the workplace to disguise herself as part of her snitch job.
While Robin was busy with her undercover job, Lufrit took care of the house chores—feeding Toto and taking out the trash.
He decided to brush up on his culinary skills by reading a cooking book, making sure the least he could do was avoid setting his house on fire. Afterwards, he ventured into the kitchen and prepared a simple yet satisfying meal—peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
First day of the job done! Now, Robin wanted to visit the art gallery to gain some artistic inspiration.
Arrived at the art gallery. Amongst other things, Robin was fascinated with some of the chairs exhibit. "There must be something deeper to these," Robin muttered.
Meanwhile, Lufrit was hard at work researching alchemy at home.
Oh she ain't going home yet...
"It's time for some KARAOKE!" said Robin. She wanted to wind down after a hard day at work.
No audience, though. There were only two people in the establishment, busy minding their own business.
"Oh, who do we have here?" thought Robin while singing her rendition of "New Glitz." A lovely old lady approached her and started shouting in support.
Robin: "Thanks for the support! What brings you to the karaoke night?"
Lovely Old Lady: "I was stressed at work. After that, I decided to grab a drink at the bar. You have a beautiful voice."
Robin thought, "Aww, she's just being nice little old lady."
Lufrit took a break and decided to spend some time watching Toto.
After a refreshing break spent watching Toto, Lufrit decided to brew some elixirs at his alchemy station following his alchemical research before the break.
Robin returned and promptly gobbled up some of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich made by Lufrit. She couldn't help but notice the simplicity of the meal, but being a loving wife, she kept her thoughts to herself.
Lufrit successfully crafted a couple of bottles of elixirs. He felt his knowledge in alchemy growing steadily. As a self-employed alchemist, he sold all the elixirs he had made and earned some money. Not much, but for now, it's enough.
Robin read some more logic books to enhance her skills and expertise, contributing to her role in law enforcement.
Logical skills are essential in law enforcement for analyzing crime scenes, understanding criminal behavior, and constructing well-reasoned legal arguments.
After attending to their needs, they finally settled down for the night. Thus, the second day came to a close.
Just after catching an hour or so of sleep, Lufrit abruptly woke up around midnight, feeling the need to throw up. After relieving himself and experiencing a sense of relief, he went back to sleep.
A sense of dread and malevolence engulfed their home as a burglar silently infiltrated the premises. He stealthily tip-toed towards the front of the house, inching closer to the doorstep.
He might have thought that, being new in town, they were an easy target for theft due to their unfamiliarity and vulnerability.
He might have thought that, being new in town, they were an easy target for theft due to their unfamiliarity and vulnerability.
Robin's "sixth sense" kicked in, and she woke up abruptly. Jokes aside, she caught the faintest suspicious noise, a skill honed during years of adventuring with her father, allowing her to sense trouble even in her sleep.
Sitting up in bed, she was certain there was an uninvited presence in their living room.
The burglar had swiped something, and she heard it! She immediately realized that a burglary might be taking place in the house.
She immediately called the police because she was 99% sure that someone had burglarized their house.
"Screw waiting for the police! I'll take matters into my own hands," thought Robin, approaching the burglar who was caught in the act.
Here we go!
No time was wasted; a fight erupted between Robin and the burglar. After all the dust settled, Robin emerged as the eventual winner, and the defeated burglar was left with a bad back.
Just in time, before the burglar could escape, the police arrived. The burglar was arrested, and after a conversation with the police, the stolen sofa was returned.
"Job done," said Robin, returning to her bed. Meanwhile, Lufrit was sleeping soundly. "I wanna catch some fish..." he mumbled in his sleep.
The third day arrived, and Lufrit woke up, unaware of the earlier events that happened while he was sleeping.
"Trust me, babe, if it were me, it would have been an easy job," said Lufrit, right after learning about the incident from his wife during breakfast.
Another day, another job. On the second day of work, Robin was hopeful that she could achieve something significant today.
After completing his morning chores, he ventured into town to search for seeds scattered on the ground in the town center. In addition to diversifying his current crop and expanding the range of ingredients for elixirs, he simply wanted an excuse to explore the town.
He had some time to chat with the townspeople. He encountered a lovely gentleman who watched Lufrit with fascination as he searched for seeds. Soon, many people joined in and warmly welcomed Lufrit to the town.
After spending some time chatting with the townspeople, Lufrit decided to go somewhere else. He hopped into a taxi, and in no time, he arrived at his destination.
The destination was the fishing ponds! A collection of systematically arranged almost-square-shaped ponds within a fenced area. This seemed like the perfect place for Lufrit to satisfy his fishing itch.
He promptly cast his fishing line into one of the ponds, and after some time, he successfully caught his first fish in the land of Riverview.
Back to Robin, and guess what? On the second day, she got promoted! She's now a "Desk Jockey." Unlike the "Snitch" role, her responsibilities now involve indoor tasks like filing and paperwork. Occasionally, she even has to make coffee, playing the part of an office assistant. One step at a time, girl!
Lufrit fished for a while, expressing his frustration at the repetitive catch of anchovies. It was getting old quickly after his first one. However, after a bit more time elapsed, he sensed that he had become a better fisherman than before.
He looked at the bunch of anchovies he had caught and silently thanked them in his heart.
He went back home and do some more alchemical work, researching alchemy and brewing elixirs right into the dusk of the day.
When Lufrit returned home, he found Robin already there, unwinding and indulging in some light reading on logic books—her self-imposed reward for her recent promotion. During dinner, they exchanged stories about how their respective days had unfolded.
With some extra money, Lufrit decided to build a bed inside his alchemy room. Due to his passion for alchemy, he wanted to sleep surrounded by his alchemical tools and creations.
Jokes aside, Robin caught the flu, and she insisted that they sleep separately to avoid spreading the illness. Lufrit immediately volunteered to sleep in his alchemy room, and Robin stayed in the master bedroom. Despite feeling bad, Robin complied and thanked him for his consideration.
